In my 4 years of courses here at UMD both online and in person I have never experienced a course or professor quite as unorganized, unprepared, and unreasonable as a class like this. This was genuinely one of the worst course experiences and it came in my final semester as a senior, and this is coming from someone who currently has an A. I have had professors whom I dislike in the way they run class but truly not to the degree that makes me write this type of review, but I would strongly not recommend taking this course or professor if this is the way she runs the rest of the courses she is responsible for. The professor consistently makes last-minute changes to the schedule, which can be understood but often results in a make-up assignment which is far more unreasonable. On top of that, the way that students lead the discussion each week you are essentially only ever learning from your classmates while she critiques the questions chosen by the discussion leaders. She refuses to assign due dates to assignments in Canvas which means they won’t show up in your calendar and makes it even more difficult to keep track of the course. Save yourself the headache and take a different online class. She definitely seems like a nice person but may need some re-evaluation of her teaching style and response to student criticism. |

Amazing dude. Teaches you so much more than the course material about life and everything in between. Highly recommended!!! |

Prof. Semper is simply an instructor who wants his students to learn. If you plan to take this class you will have to participate -- it's 15% of the grade -- but you have the choice of contributing a current event story if you're too shy to voice your opinion on the material. He assigns readings every class and he ACTUALLY goes over them!!! It's a very laid back class with assignments consisting of short one page papers due every now and again, one midterm, one pop quiz (which he gave twice verbatim because majority of the class failed, and people failed it twice), a final paper of the length of your choosing -- yes no length requirement, and a final. |

This class was very interesting. It is VERY easy but at the end of the semester, you honestly have learned a lot. You MUST speak in the class but its usually a small class jammed packed into a room in Tydings. Everyone talks and its become more like a discussion about current events and the readings which are not hard at all. You have about 20-40 small pages to read a week but the class only meets once a week - and sometimes there are breaks in between where we do not have readings. It only took me an hour to accomplish the weekly readings and then I was done for the week! |

This is a class I think every student graduating from the university should take before graduating. It's a real eye opener, and Dr. Semper is a great teacher, and a very interesting guy; He's had so many experiences that he could share with you and the 2 1/2 hour just goes by with you laughing and learning. His exams are so easy it'll mess with your head. If you wanna get an A in a class while learning more important stuff in one semester than you have your whole life, then this is the class for you! |

Pretty good professor. Forces students to have an open dialogue during class. Very interesting character. |

Great professor. Very old school and personal. He has a lot of anecdotes and stories about his life. Speaking in class is a MUST! But not to worry because you can talk about anything really, he loves current events so you can speak up there if you didn't do the readings, which are not hard at all. Quizes are just to see if you read, so make sure you do, and make sure you go to class. |
