Love her! I think she is one of the best professors this school has. She is so kind and understanding and really passionate about what she does. Yes, this course is a lot of work but it is very rewarding. Most of your lectures are going to be quest speakers talking about various industries in the Animal Science Field and there is a attendance grade. The final project is very easy just time consuming so start as early as possible and Dr.Kris is more than willing to help you with it if you ask. Again, a great professor and a great person.

Dr. Kris is extremely kind, passionate, and flexible. She will always listen to any issues you might have and work with you to succeed in her class. Like everybody else said, the workload is extremely heavy. However, she did not design the course and is always open to feedback.

Dr. Kris is by far one of the best instructors I’ve had in my life. She’s in my opinion the best instructor at UMD. She’s one of a kind!

Dr. K is literally the best teacher ever. She is so so nice! I know a few people who messed up the final project, and she let them redo it with no points taken off. Some people didn't like her, but those were the same people who didn't care about the class. In terms of class work, it's a lot. You have to really be interested in the class. It's a lot of pre-class readings, quizzes, post-lab quizzes, etc., almost every day. I did it, I was fine. Again, she understands it's a lot, so she is willing to work with you on it. I love her so much! 10/10

I love Dr. Kris so much, I have never met another teacher as kind, caring, and passionate about this subject at all. She is a wonderful teacher and I would recommend anyone to take this class. However there is a very heavy workload with this class, it was very overwhelming at first but all of the work is relatively easy and organized well throughout the week, and VERY EASY grading (the majority of the class will get over a 90% on all big summative's given). I honestly love this class and it's very engaging, DEF TAKE HER!!! 100/10

Dr Kris is one of the most passionate professors in the animal science department. I took 101 and 103 with her and they were my favorite classes of the semester.

This class is not too hard. Exams are take-home, open note, and pretty easy. However the workload for this class is ridiculous. There are pre and post class assignments for every class and sometimes the post class assignments would take me upwards of an hour. The amount of infographics and visual assignments you have to make is every annoying. The content in the first two units is important but pretty boring.

Dr. Balcom is a fair professor who truly cares about her students. I enjoyed ANSC101 and found the workload pretty manageable. The inclusion of lots of guest speakers keeps the class interesting and engaging. There are quite a lot of summative assessments, but for me they have been relatively easy.

This class was the heaviest workload out of all my classes in the beginning. The due dates are what was the most annoying. She also seems to be a lot but once the middle/end of the semester comes around most of it all makes sense. She really cares about her students and wants to prepare us for our future (harder) classes. Be prepared to have to interpret science papers, infographics, and other note-taking assignments. This class is not an easy A but is definitely possible if you work for it. Now that I understand why she seems to want so much from us, I would take her again.

If you do the pre-class quizzes (which are not timed and open note), attend lectures, and participate in class you will at the very least get a B in this class. It isn't a difficult class. Reading can be heavy but refer to the units objectives, which she makes very clear, and use that as a guideline for writing your pre class notes.
