Definitely ignore the comments regarding his grading, I have for sure received 100% on some assignments (probably because I make sure to follow his rubric LOL). If he does take off points, he will explain why and let you know what was missing. Anyway, this was one of my favorite upper-level ANSC courses that I've taken! Dr. Broadbent does an amazing job explaining the material interactively and engagingly. His exams can be lengthy but are untimed, so you can work on them little by little over the weekend, and most- if not all the answers come from his slides or were explained in class. If you have any questions about the assignments or final health plan, just ask him and he will clarify what to do. A reasonably paced and exciting class, especially since I didn't want anything crazy in my senior year!

If you want an easy ANSC upper-level elective, then take this course. I knew very little information about bacteria, virus, and even prions. This course taught me a lot about that and how to manage them in different animal facilities. Dr. Broadbent made this course very engaging. He would have activities during his lecture to keep us engaged and even showed us a couple of interesting videos. He tries his best to keep students engaged in the material. I personally like that instead of a professor just lecturing at me. It's a course where if you put effort into it, then you will get a good grade. He is also a very reasonable and understanding professor if you just talk to him and ask him questions. Dr. Broadbent is easily one of my favorite professors in the department. There are no trick questions on any of his assignments or exams. Everything is very straightforward. For the group project, he even has a check in the middle of the semester to make sure that everyone is doing their part. If someone isn't pulling their weight, then your group can decide to kick that person out of the group. I personally really liked that because it motivates everyone to do their part and not slack off. I HIGHLY recommend taking this course.

Ignore the comments about grades. I do all my work, do it well, do all assignments on time and have an A+ in the class. His classes are engaging and the content is interesting and not overly complicated that you feel overwhelmed. Grades are off disease infographics which is fun (I like canva and creating stuff), a group project about a health plan by the end of the semester of an animal species along with a small group presentation at the end talking about it to Dr and the class, and elms based quizzes (no major exams). The course load is so doable and Dr. Broadbent makes it all the better with his feedback and support through working in groups (and your group projected is graded by the individual which is great! I hate group work when it is not). I have him for 340 as well as in ANSC440 co-proctored class and he makes that class much more tolerable! Nothing negative say, do not be afraid to take his courses (in fact I recommend you take him)

His exams are taken home, untimed, and he is really nice! The write-ups can be tricky, but just ask him for help! His exam questions are usually straight from the slides.

Be careful taking his courses. The way he grades assignments if just based on how he’s feeling that day. There is no reasoning behind the grades he gives you and he refuses to give anyone a 100% on anything. There are also group projects that tank your grade and he doesn’t care .

Be careful taking his courses. He grades based on his mood that day clearly. He will give a grade with no comments on your work. It’s impossible for him to give anyone a 100% apparently. I never see anyone get a 100% and he will provide no reason. Also a lot of group work which is where I got almost all my points off.
