Current Topics in Animal Science; Cognitive Ethology

Prerequisites: Professional Writing The capacity of domestic animals to form mental concepts and/or constructs will be addressed. The goal of the course is to approach domestic animal cognition as having been formed as an adaptive trait while also more recently being influenced by domestication. Each student will participate in classroom group activity including leading discussions on selected assigned published articles. Additionally, each student will choose a topic related to animal cognitive abilities, e.g., object permanence, self-recognition, recognition of death of conspecifics, etc. A literature review will be completed by each student on their selected topic to include a summary presentation to the class with discussion.
