I enjoyed lectures and the final research project. I feel like I learned a lot about Byzantine art.I loved that we had two guests give lectures/demonstrations relating to the course material. The icon painting workshop was really fun and I learned more about the process of creating these works of art. The workload for the course is very reasonable. I really enjoyed the painting sessions! It was cool to try and use some historical painting methods and helped me better understand the art style. I think Professor Georgievska–Shine is an excellent lecturer and extremely knowledgable in her field. She was very open about the fact Byzantine art was not her particular area of study, yet I still feel as though I learned a lot about a part of the world I have always been interested in. I also think Professor's willingness to connect what happened in the Byzantium Empire with current events was extremely enlightening and something I will carry with me when I read about these events as important context. Professor was also really willing to engage with each of the students and learn more about their interest in art and art history. |

Very nice and funny person - horribly structured class. Somewhat organized content wise but not in terms of assignments. There are no assignments until the last week of classes, and additionally there is no grade put in until final grades are due. Midterm review had 180+ slides. No one knows where they stand grade wise. I really enjoyed the prof herself - but not her teaching methods. |
