Dr. Georgievska-Shine was an absolute delight to have as a professor for this class. Her passion and knowledge about the Italian Renaissance come through really clearly, and she's fun to listen to. Her lectures are pretty casual, and she usually engages with the class by asking people's thoughts on certain paintings, etc. I can sort of get what people in the previous reviews mean by her lectures feeling "disorganized"-- she often starts class by summarizing a web article (usually also linked in ELMs as supplementary reading) or playing a clip from a documentary before going into her slides, but nothing ever felt completely irrelevant or hard to follow to me. She also started recording her lectures halfway through the semester after some students asked her to, so you could always go back and revisit lecture content if necessary. The study guides she gives for the midterm and final exams can be pretty intimidating at first (both were around 200 slides!), but they aren't that bad in practice. A lot of slides are just additional context (images of relevant locations/quotes) or close-up/detail images of the artworks you have to memorize. It still can be a lot of studying though, so be prepared to dedicate an afternoon/evening or two to reviewing your notes before a test if you want to do well. Outside of studying for exams, there wasn't that much work for class -- just a handful of smaller graded writing and creative assignments throughout the semester, and then a 4 page research paper as a final project before the exam. She also schedules a class visit to the National Gallery of Art in D.C., and she also brought in a guest lecturer to talk about collecting art from the Renaissance, which was pretty cool. |

She's an amazing professor. This was a very interesting class and taking it with her was a lot of fun, she's clearly very passionate about renaissance art and she makes lectures very engaging and dynamic. Also very fair grader and gives very helpful feedback on essays and drafts. Does a great job in providing you with the material you need to learn in this class and any help you may need, such as finding sources for the final project. - Alex |

She’s so disorganized in her lectures - it’s hard to understand what you need to know. Don’t take this class. |

Professor Georgievska is an amazing lecturer and an overall brilliant person. Classes are very laid back—she just lectures about a portion of the image set in the syllabus every day and the class becomes more conversational. The slides help you focus on all the important information and it's really easy to process everything. There are very few assignments—you are graded on participation, one essay project, the midterm, and the final. With the first two you can easily boost your grade and the exams are very fair and allow you to put down whatever you remember (no specific gotcha questions). The professor also takes the time to plan guided trips to the National Gallery of Art and brings in guest speakers equally learned to her. 100 percent recommend taking her. |
