I really enjoyed this course. I think, in the past, I approached art history with a little bit of disengagement because courses were often so fast paced that I couldn't engage fully with the content beyond for the purpose of memorization. The pace for this class felt just right, as there was a lot of room to really understand certain artists—like, learning about not just Rubens' works but also his personality and background helped to better approach his works, as you would get a more grounded perspective of Rubens as a person and not just as a historical figure. I also liked learning extra bits of information that we weren't necessarily meant to memorize but were interesting to know about, as it encouraged looking at all of the details even if they aren't really "important" and helped to understand what life was like in the 17th century. I also really enjoyed the assignments, it was a very clever way of engaging students beyond just writing essays, and I really appreciated how much time and care the professor put into showcasing our works—the Wunderkammer display case was beautiful, and the poetry book was a wonderful keepsake that I bragged about to my friends. These kinds of assignments were so different from what I normally do in art history classes, and it was really interesting to analyze art history through different avenues like creative writing or photography. Overall, it felt like this professor was very passionate about this course and she always came in with a positive and lighthearted attitude, which was nice. I always liked hearing her perspective on works, especially when she disagreed with interpretations written by a museum or when she had her own unique interpretation that hadn't been written about yet, because it really emphasized how interpretive art history can be and that there can be so many ways to look at a piece of art.

Dr. Georgievska is an incredible professor with such a wealth of personal knowledge. Her expertise in Northern Renaissance, so this class is perfect to take with her. She connects so many movements and pieces across the course and really helps you develop a proper understanding of the subject matter. The only thing a little confusing is the lack of assignments, however, she grades all of them fairly. Most of your grade will come from the midterm and final, however, you just need to memorize the image set and you should have no problem acing them. All you need to do is show up to each lecture, study a bit during exam weeks, and write a very brief research paper. I would recommend this course to anyone interested in art history.
