ARTH351 Expecting a B Anonymous 10/16/2023 |
This teacher is difficult to work with and the lectures are a bit chaotic. Her assignment instructions are very vague and the readings are at an extremely high level. While it's important to read quality papers, she is only looking for specific take-aways, which she doesn't specify, and doesn't give any comments after the first weekly assignment unless it's a big paper. She only has a single hour for office hours and doesn't provide helpful material if the lecture was missed (doesn't post slides) or opportunities to make up missed work. If you miss a class, she reduces your grade regardless of if you provided a doctors note or if the situation was an emergency, even when you've met University requirements for an excused absence. She is condescending when student's answer questions in a way she doesn't agree with or hasn't thought of but doesn't provide constructive feedback. Overall, the content itself is really interesting, but the delivery and setting makes it nearly impossible to navigate the structure of the course itself. I'd recommend taking a different course, especially if you just need an elective credit. This is not worth the time and the frustration that comes with it. If you are an art history major, I recommend taking pretty much any other course to fulfill requirements. |

I personally found this professor kind of difficult to work with. Her instructions were often vague while her standards were hyper-specific, and there was a certain lack of clarity on her part that she seemed to attribute to her students' lack of comprehension. I'd probably recommend taking a different class if that sounds like it would be frustrating to you, especially for a summer class. |
