Horrible class in terms of learning. Exams are impossible to study for and is purely if you can think like him. He is a great person overall but the class lacks structure. BSE is a great program, but the classes make it difficult. |

Schlake's a great guy but not a great professor. He has a lot of interesting stories, but his class is poorly managed. Many of the assignments were scheduled for the wrong time, never mentioned in class, or not even given. The midterm and final were incredibly difficult and based mostly on the textbook we'd never covered; if it wasn't for the review session that the 2nd year students gave us, we all would've failed the exams. Besides that, I thought that the class was actually pretty fun. The weekly creative challenges were fun and engaging. His slides were pretty easy to understand, and he incorporated many exercises/videos/real-life examples to make the material stick better. Even though I skipped most of my classes after the first month, this was the class that I'd want to attend the most. If you are not interested in entrepreneurship, or do not like Schlake's personality, DROP BSE! Schlake's a very knowledgable guy and a great resource for anyone interested in entrepreneurship, but it's hard to see this come through because the Scholars classes are so surface-level. |

As a class, I can't say I really learned anything. It is about creative problem-solving, so I don't really see how much you can learn from that. The BSE program itself is a bit demanding and doesn't work well with student schedules. However, I thought he was a great person. If you get to know him outside of the classroom and just talk to him, you'll see how supportive he is in terms of helping you achieve things. The class itself is pretty easy. The lectures are quite boring but all of his slides are posted on Canvas. There are weekly challenges to complete that are very straightforward and simple. The exams are also pretty easy. He let us have a cheat sheet, and everything that was on the exam came straight out of his slides. I feel that people complain quite a lot about the class and the program, but for my first semester, I thought it was okay. It probably requires more work than you would expect and your grade can really suffer if you don't want to dedicate some effort and time into it. |

Very bad class. He's nice but his class is terribly run. Has put barely anything in ELMS. |

Pretty bad class overall... had to take it for BSE. Through out the class he usually goes through his slides and talks about stories from his life. Sometimes the lectures are entertaining. Exams are horrible. The questions are either common sense or they test about something he may have briefly mentioned for 10 seconds during his lecture. His slides are complete barebones, so you can't really study apart from reading the book. The exam literally had a riddle and a question about who said a certain quote. He also grades nothing. As I type out this review it is the end of finals week and none of the major projects in the class have been graded. Just the weekly creative "challenges" (which his TA grades) and the final and midterm exams (which is auto scored by canvas) have been graded. He also hasn't put a single grade in the colloquium. I think he's a cool guy with some unique experiences, but he is a pretty bad professor. |

Run away. Simply run away. Sadly I have him next semester as well because of BSE. However, if I could, I would sprint away from a.s.a.p. He does not grade assignments... Elms is literally empty, but my final grade is in somehow. He simply just yaps about stuff that is not even on the exams. |
