I'd like to start off with the fact that this guy is the first teacher to motivate me to write a review. NGL, I did decent in the class, but holy hell are his classes some bs. He is decent and not the worst professor I've had by far. But I think that he is way too uptight about random things. He condescendingly asks questions in the middle of the lecture, and when no one answers, he shames the entire class (which doesn't bother me too much, however, I think it's worth mentioning). His lectures are pretty mundane and boring. The worst part by far is his standards. The guy knows his stuff, almost to a detriment, because he expects all students to provide the most precise answers ever. I felt like I answered everything correctly on my exam and final, but I ended up getting so many random points off purely because it wasn't EXACTLY what he was looking for. Yeah, overall, I'd look for a different teacher. |

Very nice guy, can be a bit much at times while teaching but overall nice. Doesnt post many practice questions, or give much material outside of lecturing. I get that he doesn't want to post his lecture recordings, but barely gives any helpful material other than vague lecture slides and R examples that do not accurately prepare for exam questions. This is definitely the hardest course I have taken at this school and the lack of material outside of him rushing through quickly explained math problems on the board and then wiping away after two seconds makes it impossible to learn anything in my opinion. The class is supposed to be difficult and covers difficult concepts, but I wouldn't take it if it wasn't the last class for me to graduate. |

Bjarnadottir seems to be the better choice between Prof Lazar and Bjarnadottir. There are no tests in the class, only quizzes which are in class and open notes. Class is structured with a lecture or two introducing a topic and then one or two lectures applying the concept in R. By the time you get to the homework, unless you encounter unexpected coding errors, it is a breeze. |

I feel like this class was pretty well-run. Professor can come off as intimidating at times, but if you show effort in the class, he becomes a lot more approachable. The exams were open-note, which was very nice. The course grade is pretty dependent on those exam scores though, so don't slack off because it is open-note. |

The class feels slightly less structured than his 430 class does, but just come to class and keep up with the slides. He goes over practice exams the class before every exam that are really helpful and the exams really aren't difficult. The R that's involved in the course is also pretty basic and you can just copy off of the examples he posts online. Radu comes off a little scary/harsh at first but he's actually a super nice guy-he cares about teaching the material well and explains everything pretty thoroughly. The exams are easy to do well on (in person but open note) if you study the examples he goes over and he curves them a lot. |

Very interesting class and Prof. Lazar genuinely cares about their students during office hours. However, this class sucked during covid as he would just upload videos and you were supposed to grasp all the content in one take,. It felt as if he was reviewing content for himself during the pre recorded lectures, for someone taking in the concepts for the first time is very hard if you don't rely on the TAs or prof office hours for help, which is not always possible to keep up when running a packed course load. I'd loved to take this class in person |

He’s a pretty good teacher and the class is interesting. Grading is pretty tough, but he’s great at responding to student concerns. The final was an ELMS quiz and my work disappeared right before I could submit (accidentally put the page in read-only mode). He was really understanding and reopened the exam for me. Very nice and understanding dude. |
