Overall, I liked being a UTA and thought it was a good learning experience. A lot of people do it as a good way to get to know a professor and to build up their resume for medical/ graduate school. Besides attending lab and UTA meeting once per week, there are weekly journals that actually take a long time to complete (reflect on last week's lab, write two questions for upcoming lab with answers, explain most confusing point of upcoming lab, multiple reading assignment questions). There is a lot of emphasis on teaching science to undergraduates, and a lot of the reading assignments are from education journals. I thought that more emphasis should have been put on how to actually help the students during lab.
