BSCI381 Expecting an A Anonymous 04/18/2026 |
This class was much harsher on grading that expected. Juntti has very vague guidelines and feedback to questions, which is not helpful in completing the two major assignments for the course. It is very low workload, like the review said below, but that makes it seems deceptively easy to earn an A, which is not the case. Also, he focuses primarily on cichlid fish as his model system and doesn't branch much beyond that. |

381 was a bit unstructured and unpredictable which caused a lot of stress for my grade; Juntti is very passionate about his research on cichlids and that made up the majority of the class, including the final assignment. Lectures were a bit dull. Class assignments were quite rare, with only a midterm group assignment and the final project that made up the bulk of your grade. I also agree with the review below that grading felt extremely subjective, as there was no proper rubric to go off of. He would take points off for not thinking beyond the lines. |

The GPA average for 381 is not what the bar graph shows. The class average for my semester was around a B+ based on ELMS assignment averages. It seemed like the grades were intentionally normalized for this result. Don't take this class expecting an easy A. The teacher is passionate about the subject he teaches, and the class can be interesting or boring depending on how you view the topics for the articles. low workload, and the grade is unpredictable due to subjective essay grading. |

Great class if you're interested in learning about how the brain controls behaviors. Dr. Juntti is a super smart dude. Expect to read a bunch of scientific papers and be prepared to talk about them during class. Dr. Juntti goes over slides and papers pretty in depth. Midterm is a presentation and paper and same goes for the final. Its not an easy A, but definitely an easier one. |

He's a great professor for BSCI381, goes through his slides in a very detailed way and prompt student participation in the discussions. This class is really easy to take. Great class if you wanna see how graduate level courses are like! |
