Prerequisite: BSCI222; or permission of CMNS-Biology department. Patterns of DNA sequence variation within and between species, caused by nucleotide changes and the movement of transposable elements. Theories of molecular evolution, such as the neutral theory. Molecular clock hypothesis: its importance as a practical empirical tool in molecular genetics and systematics and its theoretical foundation. (Sponsoring Dept.: BIOL).
