George Bean BSCI493 Expecting an A Anonymous 04/05/2014	This was easily the most enjoyable and interesting class I have taken at Maryland. I took the course during the winter semester, so it was a lot of material in a short amount of time. We also only had time for one field trip, it was to an herbal medicine shop nearby and was a lot of fun. I used my laptop to take notes, which I found to be absolutely necessary. His exam questions come directly from lecture and there isn't much supplementary reading. Therefore, typing everything out as he said it was the best way to make sure I had comprehensive enough study material. I would also recommend recording lectures, but as someone else said, Dr. Bean can be very soft spoken so sit right next to him if you plan on doing so. I wish there were more classes like this one, it really was a lot of fun.
George Bean BSCI493 Expecting an A- ssherman 07/21/2010	Dr. Bean is the best professor I have had at UMD. The tests were all very specific to what was said in lecture, so it was important to pay attention to everything he said. Also, recording the lectures was important. If you do that, keep the recorder close to him because he can be soft spoken. The field trips were great but hanging out at the National Arboretum for 2 hours was a pain in 100 degree weather and DIRECT sunlight. Otherwise, the class was great. In smaller classes, you'll realize that the students really make the class better and that was the case. Dr. Bean had a great set of students during the Summer 2010 session to teach.
