Albert Kyle BUFN400 Anonymous 10/14/2023	The lectures are unrelated to the homework, and nothing is organized or well done. The content would probably be interesting, but it's so poorly taught that it ruins the entire experience. Additionally, homework is graded really harshly.
Albert Kyle BUFN400 Expecting a B+ Anonymous 12/30/2022	The class was part of a new notation program designed for computer science students to get involved with financial analysis. Pros: - Homework (40% of course grade) was really easy, despite taking a little bit of time to understand the way the answers should have been formulated. - Even if you didn't have any experience with Python or using Pandas/NumPy, it was super easy to pick up throughout the course - Professor Kyle is probably one of the foremost experts in this kind of subject matter, so learning and listening to him is a really cool experience because he definitely cares about the content in this class - There is a heavy curve in this class. From person experience (Fall 2022 semester), doing class average on the exams was somewhere between a B+ or A-, and it's not that difficult to get a perfect score on the homework assignments to boost your grade Cons: - The exams are nothing like the homework. The exams (1 midterm for 10% and the final for 30%) consisted of a number of statements, which we had to label as True, False, or Uncertain, and then explain why. It was pretty unclear as to how much detail we should be providing. - The grading scale in the syllabus was confusing and didn't really apply to the final grades. For the homework, a 9 or 10 out of 10 was an A+, and then each subsequent point was a lower letter+sign grade. For example, the syllabus outlined that 8 was an A, 7 was an A-, 6 was a B+ and so on. This wasn't really observed come final grading time, which is a bit confusing. However, as a computer science student, where doing at or above course average is a passing or better grade, it was somewhat familiar - The TA office hours were somewhat limited - For a class that met 2x a week for 75 min lectures, there was a span of 3 classes where all we did was discuss a homework assignment, and there are often tangents that don't really relate to the material directly, and as a Computer Science student with a relatively limited finance background, it was definitely confusing. Overall, if you have the chance to take BUFN400, I'd definitely recommend it, but there's absolutely a bit of a learning curve. However, if you're interested in the material/content or have any sort of interest in FinTech, it's an amazing class with a great lecturer.
