Policy and Legal Context for Sustainability Management
Examines the role of law in shaping individual and social norms of behavior. By its nature, the legal system creates a multi-layered complex array of incentives and penalties that serve to regulate expected responses within a society. Once established, the zone of individual freedom to operate is constrained by compulsory process within the applicable community standards of behavior. When applied on an international scale, the law must also reflect the consensus and of all parties, since enforcement depends upon internal self-controls.
