I had professor Alexander for an asynchronous Fall course (CCJS451). Even though the course was async and there was barely any interaction with the professor, overall he was nice and caring, and he clearly wants his students to succeed. Throughout the course, he held optional Zoom meetings at the beginning of the semester and before any major assignments to answer any questions. He also frequently sent out announcements on ELMS to explain assignments and exams. Every week, there was typically one textbook chapter to read, one chapter from an article you will be reading throughout the semester, and a discussion board post (including peer replies). The only thing that I didn't like was the way he graded discussion boards, because he would deduct points throughout the week the longer you wait to make a post. In terms of grading, he is a very slow grader because of his second job in the government, but it ultimately benefitted us in the end because since he waited to the end of the semester to grade over half of the discussion board posts, he ended up grading for completion instead of by the rubric. Both the exam and final were 100 questions with 2 hours to complete. The questions were easy as long as you took good notes on the chapters and article. At the end of the semester there was also a final research paper which did not have a word-count, but was rather time consuming. He let us know beforehand though that he would be grading the papers leniently, as long as you essentially had all the required elements. Overall I would highly recommend taking Professor Alexander for CCJS493E, just make sure that if you have questions you are actively reaching out to him or attending the optional Zooms that he hosts once a month or so.
