CHBE410 Expecting an A- Anonymous 12/24/2025 |
Stats for cheme is not difficult, but also not the most interesting, lots of plug and chug, but you need to be able to determine which tests to use first. The exams were fair, same stuff on the hws and class examples, minus minitab/excel work you will be doing. The ave for exam 1 and 2 were ~ 73% which is low, but lots of room to miss points if you fail to state assumptions. Make sure to write out conditions and be as explicit as possible in the written portions. I got quite above the ave, but missed points for simple math errors, not reading the problem fully, or stating assumptions. The finals(not cumulative) was very easy ~87% ave. Don't worry about those super long eqns that take a lot of time do. Have it on your cheat sheet in case, but Vega-Vila isn't mean enough to make you do that on an exam. Also go to exam corrections, because I and others got back 3-5 points everytime. The quizzes are a bit more tough, its all MC, so a single question wrong drops you by 15/20%, but you do get to drop a quiz. Also ALWAYS make sure you fill out the attendance sheet for the quizzes otherwise you will get a 0 even if you took the quiz. HWs are doable, the later hws with minitab are more tedious, there are videos to help you through it but it still took be 30/40 mins just to understand how to use the software sometimes. Im not a big fan of stats, but Vega-Vila made it more interesting. Vega-Vila is one of the better cheme professors for sure. Sometimes he's kinda sassy, but at least he has a personality unlike other profs. Vega-Vila is knowledgable and will ans questions, and helps out with any comprehension issues, and quiz questions. I think the ave for our class ended with 81%, and Vega-Vila said he doesn't curve, but 81 is like rlly low for a chem e major class. They generally aim for 84%, im pretty sure my grade was slightly curved. I actually don't know anyone who had above a 93% in this class, which is the cutoff for an A. Rlly can't say much about the curve, so don't count on it. That being said, this class is easy compared to thermo, fluids, orgo. Vega-Vila is a good prof, and if you do the HWs, ask questions when confused, go to exam corrections, review for the quiz, and be SUPER explicit in the exams(write down assumptions, conclusions), you will get an A, easy. |
