Srinivasa Raghavan CHBE440 Expecting a B Anonymous 04/17/2026	This was one of the first classes in my undergrad in which I felt like the professor really cared about students understanding the concepts behind the math as opposed to just overloading us with information. I averaged in the 60s and 70s on exams which was about average but I always felt like the exams were very fair and were very closely related to homework or practice problems he gave us. The homeworks were never too burdensome and the TAs and Raghavan were always so helpful if I had any questions. The lectures felt kind of long and not always engaging to me personally but Raghavan definitely does get everyone discussing the concepts and involved in answering questions. Also, I did really well in chem272 because I was taking them concurrently and the kinetics in 440 made 272 feel so easy. One thing to keep in mind is he goes through his slides relatively fast; they are well organized but they do have a lot of information on them so if you are taking notes on paper it is sometimes difficult to keep up. I have an iPad and I started the semester taking my own notes but quickly changed to just writing directly on the lecture slides he posts.

I never had to open the textbook, and doing the homeworks and coming to class was more than enough to prepare for the exams, and the couple times I missed class the slides were super easy to review. I had a good experience. The issue I have is he is unprofessional toward other students. I do not want to share too much at risk of identifying these other students, but from one conversation I overheard, and two that I was told about, each from a different individual, I will say he speaks disrespectfully to students who are not doing well in his class or require ADS accommodations. If you need help in the class, go to the TAs and not to Raghavan. While he is good at teaching and organizing, he does not interact with students professionally. I am giving him 3 stars because my own experience with him was good, but if I were one of the other students I would be giving him 2 stars.

I didn't think I would find reactors too interesting, but Raghavan makes the class engaging and relevant. He posts his slides, but still take notes during class. I found reviewing for the exams chill, unlike other chem e course which feel much more overwhelming. I did start reviewing a week earlier before exams, so I think that significantly helped. The exams are very similar to homework problems, practice exams, and concepts at the end of each topic slide. If you review these a couple times you should get at least a 75%, which was like an A- compared the the ave. The homeworks can be difficult, but it helps that you work with a group. Still do every problem yourself tho, bc you will be needing to review them for the exam. If you get points docked on the HW, ask Raghavan why, otherwise you are bound to make the same mistake on the exam.
