The course material and homeworks(done in Jupyter notebooks, 8 of them) were good, but the professor did not care to elaborate the material in class or make sure the students followed through. The professor recorded the class and uploaded on elms. This was useful for the purposes of exam. The TAs were never visible during some(or most) of the TA sessions, nor replied to messages in the slack. I can, however, give credit to the prof for replying patiently to queries in slack before the final exam. The homework assignments (before midterm - 5 of them) were graded just before the midterm and the ones after the midterm along with the final grade. Homework deadlines were reasonable and extended whenever students requested more time. Midterm was late but doable. Grading was very unfair and roughly 80% got below 80% and the grades were communicated almost after a month(just 2 weeks before the final). Final was also doable and questions were pretty st forward. Grading was extremely lenient and roughly 80% got above 80%. However, the days before exams were stressful because of the difficulty of the material and the grading strategy during midterm. Finally, almost all in the class(I assume roughly 70%)ended up getting A/+/- grade but cutoff was not communicated. So I felt it was, lenient but opaque course grading. The prof (or the TAs) does not reply to student emails or slack messages promptly which was (one of the) the greatest problem(s). Also, given the vast knowledge and experience of the prof, he could have done a much better job. Sigh! |
