Strict Grader for no reason and couldn’t really be considered teaching the class considering she just brings in guest speakers. Overall the class is easy and should be passable but she’s hardly accessible and often rude in her comments (gives 0 until you “fix” submission). |

Dr. Andrade doesn't really teach this class as it is all guest speakers following the first class. She does grade all the assignments, which are not difficult but remember to do them on time as you can easily forget about them until it's too late. And she is a fair grader, I've gotten a 100 on every assignment because I did them on time and to the rubric. Regarding the class content, every week is a different guest speaker who presents their profession within the Civil & Environmental Engineering realm. There are no reflections based off the guest speakers but there is an attendance quiz at the end of each class so make sure to attend class. This class is required for CEE majors but thankfully, it is an easy one credit class that doesn't have much work. The final is a presentation that requires time and effort but that is standard for these kinds of classes. |

Professor Andrade seems very sweet as a person, but her grading is ridiculous. No partial credit for late assignments- I know multiple people who were like one day late submitting a homework, which results in your grade dropping 10% or so. The syllabus is not clear about this late policy. No partial credit and no communication either. She does not respond to emails in a timely manner. This class was very boring, lectures every week, but if you want to go into civil it will expose you to a lot of new topics/ groups on campus, which is nice. |

Dr. Andrade: She is a nice enough teacher, however, since most of the course is guest speakers, I did not get a great read on her. ENCE100: This course is great if you are deciding to major in civil engineering or if you are unclear what civil engineering is and what it entails. You meet once a week and there is a attendance at the end of class. The only other grade is an assignment a week that takes no longer than 30 minutes. Easy class, but since it is only 1 credit, only take it if it is required or you are unsure about civil engineering. |

ENCE100 is very good to introduce you to all the different things you can do as a civil engineer with guest speakers that work in the industry talk to you about what they do. Attendance is mandatory and the 8 homework assignments are super easy. Just show up and do the homework they take like 30 mins so just do them and you will get an A. |

This class is probably interesting for passionate civil engineers. However, I'm not that passionate and I just slept in every lecture. You don't need to pay attention during class. Assignments are very easy and attendance is mandatory (there is a multiple choice attendance question at the last minute of class). Lectures are on a variety of topics, some more interesting/useful than others. Dr. Andrade seems passionate and knowledgable, but it was mainly guest speakers teaching the class. Easiest A. |

Gonna have to agree with the 3-star review. ENCE 100 was definitely not like a class as literally most of the time was just guest speakers and very few assignments. It was boring for the most part as many people did not seem to have an interest in the speakers. This class will be an easy A if you are in civil! |

ENCE100 might as well be a zero credit class. We've had five assignments over the course of the semester and there is no exam or quizzes. Dr. Andrade seems very nice and down-to-earth, but after the second class she had guest lecturers for each class and it got very boring and hard to stay engaged. |

I took Charles Schwartz's class during the fall of 2020. There was no final exam, due to the pandemic, but there were two mandatory projects. The professor is very busy, he usually takes weeks to grade an assignment, because it seems like this one-credit course is low on his list of priorities, which makes sense. As the class progressed, requirements were made easier for those students which failed to meet the initial requirements due to procrastination. If you submit every assessment on-time, usually two or three multiple-choice or brief paragraph questions per week, and submit every project on-time, you should ace this course. Just make sure, that you get his approval through email for any project, so you don't waste a trip. |

ENCE100 Expecting a B Anonymous 07/15/2012 |
Brubaker has upped her game. Realizing that this class was never taken seriously, she decided to find a book to use for this class. It is still a fair courseload for a 1 credit class, but there was a final based on all the readings. Each class there was a quiz for attendance based on readings and the lecture. She must have known our names and marked us down if we weren't paying attention, though. I got some bad quiz grades even if I completed it. I'm pretty sure I got A's on the assignments and final, but because of the quizzes and attendance, my grade was brought down to a high B. Take this class seriously, and don't waste your time if you aren't seriously considering civil engineering. |

This is a required course for all civil engineers. Brubaker was nice and helpful. There are two assignments and she takes attendance. It's an easy A, don't stress about it. |

Good teacher for an intro course, Takes attendance so make sure you go to class. The class holds true to a 1 credit class as it should. Even though its a required class for all ENCE majors, you don't need to worry to much about any additional workload. Show up, listen, get a feel for civil engineering, and do the 1 or 2 small assignments she gives you. |

I was an undecided engineering major as a freshmen and because of randomly taking ence100 I confirmed civil engineering as my major just because of Baecher. The class was incredibly easy but did what it was designed to do: introduce the world of civil engineering for students. This guy is also a genius, he's in charge of many research projects. I don't know what he's like for upper level ence classes but I would try to take him just based off what I saw in ence100. |
