Special Problems in Civil Engineering; Introduction to Infrastructure and Resilience

Co-requisite: ENCE360; or by permission of instructor. The objective of this course is to develop system-level skills for the planning, design, maintenance, and operation of resilient infrastructure systems. Through this course, we will discuss a variety of infrastructure systems, both public and private, and their role in communities before and after disasters. The themes of the course will be grounded in the four phases of emergency management (mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery) and the role that infrastructure plays in each. Through these applications areas, we will study a variety of conceptual, analytical, and computational models that support informed decision-making for these systems under uncertainty.
