ENEE447 Expecting an A- Anonymous 05/25/2025 |
After having taken ENEE245, ENEE350 and ENEE447 with Manoj, I truly believe that he is actually an okay professor. General comments: Yes, his lectures are not very engaging. However, do not let this turn you off. I fully understand it is difficult to pay attention in his class. But if you do you'll actually learn a lot - Manoj is a very nice and knowledgeable person. Additionally, the slides are not that bad. The slides do have issues, but they contain all the information you need. One useful thing to know is that he writes notes for many of the slides within the "speaker notes" section, and you'll be able to find it if you download the slides and open it up in PowerPoint. His exams - some of them are okay, and some are quite rough. The multiple choice questions in particular tend to be all curveball questions. To get these right, you must master the content by thoroughly studying the slides. Additionally, he does give partial credit for multiple choice if you give decent explanations for your answers. His free response questions are usually similar to what he posts on the practice exams. However, in some cases, it won't be, but if you read the slides thoroughly, you'll be prepared. One thing I really like about Manoj is that he's quite receptive to feedback. He's willing to extend assignment deadlines if students request it. Also, even though he doesn't usually record lectures, he started doing it for ENEE447 because students asked him to. Heck, he even moved back an exam date because students wanted it. Few professors do that. I will note, one major issue with Manoj is his unresponsiveness to emails. He rarely ever responds to emails. If you want to talk to him, you must go to his office hours in-person. I'd like to give a breakdown of my experiences for each class I took with him: ENEE245: This class was quite rough. Most of the reviews here are right - the labs are awful. However, I ultimately believe that this class is more of a departmental failure rather than Manoj's. But exams were fully in his control. His exams for ENEE245 are so unnecessarily difficult. The midterm contained nothing but curveball multiple choice. The final was rough, but slightly better as it contained mostly free response questions. If you thoroughly study FSMs and practice a lot with writing Verilog code, you'll probably do okay on the final. Also, make sure to attend his exam review sessions (usually the lecture before the exam). They're quite helpful, as he goes over problems from sample exams in detail. ENEE350: This class was pretty chill, except for the exams. We only had 2 HWs throughout the entire semester, so the class had a pretty light workload. The exams were fairly difficult, but I found the free response questions to be quite similar to the practice exams. However, as always, the multiple choice is quite difficult, and to do well on them you must read the slides. Overall, ENEE350 with Manoj was actually not bad at all. Make sure to show up to lecture, take decent notes (not easy, but it's doable) and prepare well for the exams by thoroughly reading the slides and doing all his practice exams. His exam review sessions are also quite helpful. ENEE447: His ENEE447 was quite similar to his ENEE350 in terms of course layout, except our HW came in the form of 4 programming projects. The projects involved changing the scheduling policy of a Raspberry Pi OS simulator. Most of your time for projects will be spent understanding how the OS works at a deep level. Once you do, the code is fairly trivial. But it's easy to run into bugs with your projects, so don't hesitate to utilize TA office hours for debugging, as it is incredibly helpful. I generally enjoyed the projects. Exams were sort of the same - difficult multiple choice, free response questions similar to practice exams. The midterm grades were not too great (70% mean), but Manoj was super lenient with the regrade requests, so I honestly can't even complain. The final exam was actually quite difficult and contained a lot of free response questions that were not in the practice exams. But thoroughly reading the slides helped me a lot for the exam. As previously stated, Manoj was incredibly receptive to feedback this semester. He started recording lectures as per the request of students, and even postponed an exam to after spring break because students requested it. Overall, Manoj is actually not that bad. It's very much possible to succeed in his class, and you'll actually learn a lot if you show up to lecture and try to stay engaged. If you're taking ENEE245, the experience won't be great. However, if you're taking him for other classes such as ENEE350, ENEE446 or ENEE447, you'll be fine with him, as long as you put in the effort. |

Do not hand in your exam for a regrade unless you want to be falsely accused of cheating and lose points instead of gain partial credit |

This guy literally never responds to emails and doesn't answer phone calls. He comes in late, gives a shitty unintelligible lecture and then just ghosts the entire class, leaving the TA to do the actual teaching. He also lied about giving back exams in lecture, and then proceeded to never give back our exams. I showed up at his office multiple times and he was not there 100% of the time. Also, his website hasn't been updated since 2000 and half of his course resources is about trusting in jesus your lord and savior. What a complete joke of a professor. The fact that he teaches so many courses baffles me to this day. |
