I have taken both ENEE475 and ENEE476 with Dr. Zan and I really enjoyed both courses. He's a great guy who will let you learn however works best for you. The canvas pages for both of his classes were very organized and the in person lectures were well paced since he frequently used the whiteboard to go over problems. If you miss a lecture or two the Canvas page will be enough to get you up to speed, but I recommend attending all of his lectures. Simply put Dr. Zan is a very down to earth professor, whose first priority is that students learn from his classes. Do not be afraid to ask questions! When I did email him he was quick to respond and he is very approachable in his office hours if you get lost. |

Professor Zan is one of if not the best EE professors at UMD. He cares about students and understands their position in the education system. He takes feedback all the time and adjusts accordingly. HW assignments are very informative and similar to slide examples. The exams (open note) are similar to the HW problems. The TAs also do review sessions for the exams. If you go to lecture and do the HW you will pass. |

What a great guy. He is honestly a breath of fresh air because you can tell he genuinely wants to be here teaching students and not stressing you out. If you can do his homework you can pass this class. His exams literally mimic the homework and he has a final project that is either presenting a topic to the class for the whole period or a (harder) option. CHOOSE THE PRESENTATION!! I did the presentation and it was so relieving being done with the bulk of the class afterwards. He is really nice guys please take his class he gives a lot of extra credit too. |

Dr. Zan is very passionate about teaching and truly cares about making sure his students both succeed in his class and actually understand the content. Homeworks and exams are representative of the class content. Attendance is not mandatory. All homework and exams have extra credit, as well as some extra credit for attendance randomly. If you show up and do the extra credit for the assignments, it should be very easy to have over 100% in the class. |

Dr. Zan is one of the best professors I've ever had at UMD. He is so passionate about teaching and having his students actually learn the content from class. He prioritizes learning over grades and always checks in on students during lecture to make sure they understand. I can't praise this man enough. If you have the option of taking a class with him, PLEASE do. He is always adjusting his lecture and asking for feedback. His homework assignments were just like the problems provided in the slides. His exams were very representative of what we do in the homework assignments. The TAs also do review sessions during the lecture right before an exam. Each assignment also always has extra credit/points, which only helps to cushion your grade. Exams are also open note. |

Not bad, not great. I really did not like his teaching style which consisted primarily of ejaculating dozens of equations for 75 minutes straight, however I definitely learned a lot about Solar and Wind. I thought the class would be more "marco" I guess, talking about where you should build solar farms and the challenges of offshore wind, but instead it was more "micro", focusing on inverters, AC machines, DC/DC converters etc. I do appreciate the fact that Alireza has no problem giving everyone an A if they earn it. He is very generous on grading and constantly says you should not worry about your grade in his class, which I found to be true. |
