Biopharmaceutical Production

Restriction: Permission of MTech; and must be in the Terp Young Scholars Program. Formerly: BIOE160. Additional information: Instruction will combine classroom lectures and practical laboratory exercises. Students will work through a "production campaign" from expression system to vialed protein product and explore some applications of biotechnology in the production of food. The "hands on" experience will be especially valuable to students interested in the growing field of biopharmaceutical production or food science. Each day will begin with a basic lecture followed by a lab that covers recent topics discussed in lecture. Focuses on the basics of recombinant DNA technology as applied to biopharmaceutical manufacturing in a classroom setting. Students will work through a "production campaign" including all key steps of manufacturing a protein product.
