ENGL310 Expecting a B Anonymous 12/21/2010 |
I also had Olmert for ENGL241. Anyone who gives this guy less than a five will not be please with any professor at UMD. This guy is the real deal. He knows so much about English lit, and yes he does go off on tangents and sometimes says random things but that's just who he is, and it's endearing. He's taught at UMD forever, and cares a lot about his students. I highly recommend his classes, or just meeting him in general. It's a real treat. And that's coming from someone who isn't a lit. nerd. |

Not a bad professor. The problem in general with her is she rarely sticks to the syllabus. She will change reading assignments and deadlines constantly. She also can give an unfair amount of reading during a week when an essay is due. I had two essays to write and three 1-2 papers to write. She does expect you to write with few/none grammatical mistakes so use the Writing Center! She gives you leeway in what to write about and can help you choose a topic. You also might do a group project where each member of your group writes about a topic pertaining to the group topic. Then those papers are condensed into five minute presentations. It's a nice change of pace but she takes it a little too seriously (for example, you have to dress nice on the day you present!) You will be expected to talk. Every class is a circle where people just talk about the previous night's readings. BE PREPARED TO TALK! She takes the participation seriously. Btw...you do have a final in the class but it's easy! It's on plot material and she curves it. I got a 64 on the final which was a B+ (I did not even try to be honest). In her defense she is required to give a final (dunno why). |
