Her lectures were engaging and followable, because she wrote notes while teaching, giving clarity on what would be enough to write down in the notes. Additionally, she ended every lecture with practice quizzes, which were not graded and gave me a feeling of how much I understood and what I should study more. Nonetheless, I did poorly on the first midterm and downplayed the issue until the second midterm (when Dr. Riaz started teaching lectures), after which I lost hope. Had I taken the midterm grade more seriously, I believe I would have done better. When she thought studios (second half), I do not think she was as solid as Dr. Riaz or the teaching assistants. I believe she should be the lecturer for the full semester. In office hours, she was helpful and was willing to answer homework related questions (even when I was mentally struggling), and it's sad she was limited to her small office. |

He taught the labs and studios in the first half of the semester and lectures in the second half. While he was very clear in labs and studios, making me confident that he would be a great lecturer, he was a TERRIBLE lecturer. Compared to Dr. Huertas, he lectured much faster (let alone for harder topics such as laminar flow and boundary layer), did not write notes, did not end with practice quizzes, and constantly derived. Class became increasingly hard to follow. Had I gone to office hours more and faced my fear more, I believe I could have done better on the second midterm, and had more motivation for the final exam. |

He is an alright lecturer, he has slides that he doesn't write on just shows the next part that you copy down or can look at after. He lectured during the second half of the class which made learning a bit harder. He is enthusiastic and helpful, I loved when he was doing studio for the first half of the semester. Never went to his office hours but would expect him to be good. The homeworks were a bit rough, you have to pay for them and the textbook which I never used the textbook, the homework took around 2-4 hours depending sometimes longer but you get multiple attempts on each problem. The exams always had one problem that was very hard but they weren't too bad, averages were around Bs, and they give more than enough practice problems. The studio was overall just a grade booster, they work through problems that you just also copy then submit (difficulty depends on your TA, mine was great I had Winthrop Townsend), but they always take the entire 2 hours. Make sure you get a good group for lab because the derivation part kind of sucks, just make sure you don't get stuck doing it for every lab but overall it is graded easily. |

She is a good lecturer, she works through every problem and writes down everything with no pre written slides. She is a bit unenthusiastic, but still not too bad to follow for 50 minutes, sometimes she goes a bit fast but just look at the lecture notes you take after class. She is strict with not giving points back though. I would recommend. Great lecturer and the homework’s and studios help a lot with learning the class material. She didn’t go above and beyond but was a solid teacher to have for a difficult class. |

This course had two professors. One for lectures and one for discussions. They switched positions halfway through the semester though which I found to be very distracting. I much preferred Cerdeira's lecture style, she defined fundamental terms before moving onto big concepts and she worked through examples with us during class. There were three midterms, studios graded on completion, labs graded on accuracy, homework, and a final. The exams were technically fair although they each included one really annoying question which made it hard to get a good grade. |

He's a better teacher than Huertas (not a high bar). He uses slides that he posts semi-regularly, which usually aren't enough to do the HW problems off of, but he's ok at teaching the concepts and good at guiding students through the problems |

Her lectures are pretty dull and not engaging. She's not that good of a teacher, and usually just writes on her ipad instead of having any slides or anything. She'll kinda just give you the solution to the problems, not teach you or guide you through it |

She is okay. Nothing special. All I can really say is that her slides do not really help much. She focuses so much on teaching the conceptual stuff that you will not know how to do the homeworks just from what is taught in class. The studios do help a bit in terms of practicing more difficult problems, but they are graded and a bit rushed, plus my studio was done before we were even taught the topics in lecture, so that was a flaw in the system. I honestly started learning more when I stopped paying so much attention in class and self-taught days before. Her teaching confused me more than when I just looked at how problems are solved and pieced together why it was done that way in my head. Doing this was honestly enough. But, having the conceptual stuff mattered in at least the baseline understanding of how to figure out these problems. Plus, Dr. Huertas Cerdeira is nice. |

This professor is one of the worst I have had in college. Not only are exams relatively hard though admittedly doable so far, I find that the professor is very inadequate for teaching this course. While I would say avoid at all costs, there is no way around this class. |

Chill girl just teaching some fluids class is slight |

Cecilia Huertas Cerdeira
ENME331 Expecting an A Anonymous 12/05/2024 |
Shes very quiet and drones on about convoluted derivations rather than developing the classes understanding of fluids. Especially towards the end of each topic the lectures start to cover exponentially less material. Most of the learning happens when practicing for this classes exams, rather than in the lecture. |

Cecilia lectured for half of the semester, switched off with Riaz, and moved to the discussions. I don't think there were more than three lectures all semester where I learned a single thing. They spent a lot of time on derivations that simply illuminated nothing of any use. I would go to lectures and get so bored out that I would fall asleep and wake up and have missed nothing. They spent a lot of time with the derivations and laughably little time on example problems to show how those derivations would be used. Overall, I don't know if that lecture format is entirely her fault, but her lecturing style was also not captivating at all. Very monotone and fairly hard to hear despite sitting in the front. You learned all of the content hopefully in discussions or when doing homework. The exams were pretty fair, and the grades tended to be pretty high. |

Dr. Huertas is a decent professor who is very willing to help students out who have questions. Exams are fair and homeworks are reasonable. She can be quiet and dry when lecturing but she is still helpful professor in a class that isn’t too demanding. |

ENME331 Expecting a B Anonymous 12/05/2024 |
Dr. Huertas is honestly a nice person, but honestly she is one of the worst professors I have ever had in the context of teaching. She grades exams harshly as well and this course in general seems to be allergic to partial credit. Labs are fun in person but the reports are excessively insufferable, and the derivations of equations are next to impossible with points being taken off over terrible reasons and the rubrics aren't even filled most of the time. Part of this is definitely from the lack of sympathy of the TAs for the most part but the professor is not devoid of fault. |

I feel like the negative reviews for Huertas are a little over the top. Yes she can be a little quiet but the content for the class is really not that demanding and she is always willing to answer questions in detail. Yes it can be a little boring but fluids is really not a heavily challenging class if you ask questions and get the help when you need it |

Like the previous review, his nice personality is a deception. He coteaches with Cecelia so they both have the same problems. Horrible teaching, near impossible exams, and harshly graded lab reports. Most likely will have to drop the class. |

ENME331 Expecting an A Anonymous 12/23/2023 |
Dr Huertas goes pretty fast because she is often not speaking to the class. She simply copies what she has written on her notes. This means many students miss important content when she makes a new slide to scrawl fast on. There was no support for understanding the material, since the TAs were pretty useless. Nobody responded to emails promptly, so homework questions often went unanswered until well after it was due. The professor moved through topics without reviewing their purpose or relationship to other chapters, meaning everything felt very pointless until we were forced to put it all together for homework. Also, much of the syntax she uses is not consistent with the TAs and textbook. The other professor, Dr Riaz has similar problems with his teaching. |

this time around she taught lecture and riaz did the studios. tbh lectures were just boring and her writing on the slides with the pwerpoint drawing tool is p bad to read over but she super nice. there is always never enough practice for the midterms and final which is y everyone did p bad on them. she knows her stuff but cant teach well. my advice just skip and watch dr Biddle on youtube |

I honestly don’t see why Riaz doesn’t have a higher rating. His lectures are very useful and he has them posted so you can refer back to them. The lectures are pretty straightforward and relatively easy to understand. He is a VERY accommodating professor, he allowed me to make up homework’s and even a midterm when I really didn’t have a good reason to miss them. Midterms are usually pretty reasonable, and are very very similar to the practice exam he gives to you. His lectures are pretty quick but that’s to be expected for a class that’s only 50 minutes long, with the amount of content we have to learn. The text book sucks pretty hard tho. They seem to overcomplicate a lot of topics so I do not recommend using it. Labs are kind of a pain, but there’s only 6 of them. The grade distribution is beautiful, 20% midterm 1 20% midterm 2 20% labs 20% HW 20% final It’s a very fair distribution. If you study an average amount you can easily get a B or better |

Riaz is an alright teacher. He is kind and responsive to students concerns but the lectures are not good. He goes through derivations far two quickly and his hand writing isn't always the best which can get confusing when there are so many similar variables used in fluid mechanics. Also the problems he presents in studio sessions are very difficult and often confusing. However, he does occasionally take the last ten minutes of class to do a non-graded knowledge check as a class, through a google form, and that was helpful. Also the exam review sessions and practice exams are well prepared and the exams are easier than I had expected. He is also a very kind grader on exams. |

Huertas led the studio sessions and review sessions before exams. I think she is new and is learning how to teach a college course. She is kind of awkward but wants students to get involved. In-studio she asked questions for students to answer/help out while solving a problem, but no one raised their hands, so eventually, she stopped asking. Huertas is not consistent with writing out solutions where she will either show a lot of steps or skip some steps. Sometimes her work has an error or two. She is new, so cut her some slack, but could be better, could be worse. She does know the content, but learning how to teach it is the challenge. |

Riaz was an okay teacher. He's not bad, but not great, and probably could have passed the course without attending the lectures. The lectures were not necessary since he posts all lecture slides a day or so later. He likes questions, but may not understand your question entirely, so asking one on one at OH would be more helpful. The studios are where you will learn the most on how to solve problems. Homeworks were the most challenging, but still helpful. Exams were easier than the studios/homework, but studying from the studio problems and homework is the best way to prepare. Riaz also has a review session in the class before an exam which can be helpful. The course content seems very challenging and confusing, but the exams are doable. |

He's a nice guy and he knows his stuff. I will say that. But the lectures are mostly derivations and the material is generally useless until you do example problems in studio. The exams are fair and easier than the homework problems. If you get him for studio, he does do a good job of explaining the concepts better in a smaller setting. That being said, I probably zoned out for most of the lectures throughout the semester and did fine in the class strictly because of studios. |

I'm sure Riaz knows what he's talking about, but he really doesn't make it evident in his lectures. He'll click through slides that I don't believe he made himself and often when students ask questions he is unable to answer them. He's a poor lecturer and frankly, I'm not sure why I continued to attend the class when I knew it was more effective to learn the material from the textbook. |

Lectures were completely useless and nearly impossible to follow. Spends way too much time on derivations and does not like going through example problems. Fluids Mechanics overall is not too difficult of a class and the material makes sense more or less, so if these lectures were even a bit more effective, this class would be a lot easier. Duncan is a really nice person, but not a good teacher for 331. |

His lectures are pretty difficult to follow. Throughout the semester I generally had no idea what was going on in lecture. He spends the vast majority of time going over proofs and doing math, but he did very little to explain what any of it actually meant physically. |

Did not learn a single thing from lecture all semester long. All he does is perform complex derivations throughout the entire lecture, everyone looks around at each other wondering what on earth is going on. I like to joke with my friends that he just wants to see how many partial derivatives he can fit on the board at once. Don't take him. With regards to the class itself, it's not too bad you can look everything required from the homework. |

Taught the class theoretically, examined the class with complicated problems that left a good amount of people confused as to how to tackle problems. Did not help that he rarely did example problems. I would not recommend him |

he's too smart for his own good and in fact for the students. he spends most of the class time doing proofs that only he will be able to understand and makes everyone feel stupid in the process. it doesnt take much effort to pass but in order to get an A you really need to dedicate your life to understanding him otherwise you'll be caught off guard when the test is given |

Kiger is the worst professor you could possibly have! He makes your life unnecessarily hard and thinks that the world revolves around him. He lives completely in his own fluid world and does not understand what he puts his students through. I strongly advise anyone who is about to sign up for his classes to switch professors!!! I think he enjoys making our lives hard. |

KENNY KIGER THE TIGER!!! This man is legenDARY. He's hard but he knows his stuff. In discussion and office hours he will clarify anything you need to know. You will be overwhelmed by his amazing knowledge. You will work your ass off, but he's fair overall compared to the other professors. PS. Get Nikolaos as your TA, he owns. |
