ENME744 Expecting an A Anonymous 12/22/2024 |
An assumption I had going into this class (ENME416/744) was that it would be an easy A. While it is attainable, if it’s an easy A you’re looking for then look elsewhere as this class takes some effort. However if you genuinely enjoy 3D printing and want to learn more about current and upcoming additive methods this is a great class. Pros: Sochol is for the most part, is an engaging and talented lecturer. He thinks he’s a comedian, which brings some entertainment to the class. He is a pretty fair grader when it comes to the projects, and he gives no homework so it’s really just projects and exams you have to worry about. Cons: Sochol and his TA decided not to communicate this semester. Not sure if this is a consistent thing or dependent on the TA, but it caused me and my group some headache so beware. Example: TA agreed to let us present our final project in the evening, but failed to mention this to Sochol so he made us go early and we were underprepared Exams are manageable but worded ambiguously and are slightly confusing. Also he follows the automated elms quiz grading and won’t compromise so getting points back that are unfairly deducted from your score is virtually impossible. Example: multiple choice 3 correct answers, 1.5 points possible. I choose 2 correct answers and 1 incorrect answer. My score is 0.5/1.5 because elms will subtract 0.5 for incorrect response and another 0.5 for answering 2/3 correctly. Unfair? I think so. Also deadlines creep up on you and there’s little to no reminder, and the deadlines are in constant flux because he makes changes to the syllabus mid semester. So all in all, he could be better, only take if you are passionate or curious about additive manufacturing |
