ENSP399A

Special Topics in Environmental Science and Policy; Conflict and the Environment

This course will examine the complex nexus of security and environmental change. Specifically, the impact of environmental change on conflict - how it may increase conflict through resource scarcity, environmental refugee migration and state weakness, or decrease it through damage to military infrastructure and public distraction. It will also cover the impact of war on the environment, as in the cases of military base pollution and nuclear/chemical warfare.
