This course is probably one of my favorites I have taken at UMD! It was sooo interesting and I enjoyed going to lectures. He always posted the zoom recordings of lectures which was so nice especially on days that I couldn't make it to lecture. I think he explains things super well and the class is such a great mix of information. Lectures include regular content, graphs, studies, and his personal experiences. I love hearing him share the stories he has that relate to the topic! It is clear he is so passionate and genuinely wants us to learn and enjoy the subject. The exams are online and at home, but wow they were still VERY challenging! They are definitely fair, but you really have to think deep and have a good understanding of all of the content. Not much homework or anything though so there's time to study and put work in. Definitely would recommend if you like soils (if you don't definitely do not take this lol)!

Dr. Ray "Money" Weil is a blessing, however if you like a coherent class structure, rational exams, and As then ENST411 (Soil Fertility) with The Radish King is not for you. That said, if you desire to learn about micronutrient deficiencies and the Nitrogen cycle—with a heavy does of African soils and agriculture—this class is a MUST.

Dr. Weil is a merciless and pitiless grader who takes off points for anything and everything. And with 100% of your grade coming from 3 exams and 1 paper, every single point counts. Also, he lectures with the lights off and offers few chances for student participation, which makes this class a real snoozer. Otherwise, the content is actually extremely interesting and Dr. Weil is a fascinating man with a lot to say and some great stories.
