Super interesting class, absolutely loved it. Covered so many life strategies that I wouldn't have even imagined. A highlight for me was definitely what I would call the "bacteria roleplay", really helped me get a sense of the scales involved in the soil and the diversity within. It's a small class, and there's plenty of opportunity to ask questions if a particular topic interests you and you want to talk about it some more. Exams were quite manageable and not worth an absurd amount of the grade. Assignments and the final paper were generally graded on effort and demonstration that you were engaged and learning something, so nothing to stress about. The textbook was not needed for this class, I certainly didn't use it, but you may find it helpful (?). Dr. Yarwood is also just really kind and always open to meet to talk about grades or things you are struggling with. A few times I needed a day's extension or so, and she was super understanding of that and quite flexible. Loved this class, learned a lot, but wasn't insanely stressful.

The content in this class is super manageable if you just go to class and pay attention, and she definitely makes the lectures worth your time. She is engaging to listen to and she really lets the students' interests guide the conversations. Dr. Yarwood is super flexible on pacing of the class and she gives really useful feedback on assignments. The way she teaches the class helps you get better at analyzing things over time, which helps you do well on the exams (which are really like quizzes). Highly recommend this class or any others taught by Dr. Yarwood!
