ENST485 Expecting an A Anonymous 12/11/2025 |
Lectures are kinda boring, but interesting at some points. Very well-versed in water management & will answer any questions. He really likes this class despite being monotone. HWs are very nit-picky, but are pretty similar to the lecture slides. SLOW GRADER, but he really cares about us, will grant extensions, and just wants us to do well. 4 HW assignments 2 Exams, one of them is take-home 1 Final Project and Presentation to go w it |

ENST485 Expecting an A- Anonymous 12/11/2025 |
Definitely a little harder of a class than expected but very do able. The final exam is actually just a group project (8-10 pages single spaced) and then a presentation. The first exam isn't too hard, he does most of the calculations in class you just need to review them. The second exam was take home which was AMAZING, thank you Masoud! We also went on one field trip around campus which we all enjoyed, but honestly Dr. Negahban-Azar might have enjoyed it more. He's a very sweet man and he's very fair if you go up and talk to him and he also responds to emails pretty fast. Overall he's one of the nicest professors and he really enjoys this subject. If math isn't your thing I wouldn't recommend, but pretty good class overall. |

Medium Difficulty Class, Medium Difficulty Grading, Very Little Grade Padding/Easy Assignments, Mixture of Math and Theory Pros: Dr. Alves is very understanding and always willing to answer questions. The assignments are direct preparation for the exams and directly related to content covered in class, both of which are helpful. Feedback on assignments was helpful. I loved how applicable the class was to real-world problems. It made me feel a lot more passionate about what I was learning. This class offers necessary formulas and tables on the exams, but that means it's important to understand how the formulas are applied. Office hours are by appointment. Overall, I recommend this class and this professor. Cons: I wish all assignments had been graded before each midterm. Because assignments in this class cover what we do on midterms, if I didn't feel confident in what I was doing on an assignment and didn't get feedback on time, I was unconfident going into the midterm. I think this was Dr. Alves' first semester teaching ENST485, so some aspects of the class and its assignments felt a bit disorganized. For example, The confusion surrounding the final assignment was a bit frustrating. We used the program PCSWMM and it felt like no one knew what they were doing, which was demotivating. I wish we'd had more direction on how to use the software. I suspect this project will be more organized and less anxiety-inducing in future semesters. |
