Terrible. Lectures are not helpful- she reads slides and provides no visual as to how things are actually being performed in SAS (no side by side screen). Impossible to understand and no captions in her lectures. When you ask for help via email or to meet during office hours she will tell you to instead, post your question on the discussion board. Then your question will go unanswered- or if she DOES answer, it won't be helpful or clear so you will have to ask a question again to clarify the question - a terrible back and forth which can take days of communication in an expedited course when each piece builds on prior concepts so there is no time to waste. And then suddenly your question remains unanswered because no matter how many screen shots of the code and back and forth via the discussion board, she just doesn't understand what you are trying to ask. When she finally started office hours (3 weeks into the semester in an expedited course), I recall asking if she could do a practice problem so I could see how she works through the code. Nope! She said to review weeks x through x of lecture. Grading rubric lacks transparency and she is incredibly condescending to her students. Seriously makes me HATE a class I was previously very excited about. I LOVE EPI and biostat. And now, just thinking about this class is giving me a mild panic attack and PTSD.

She does not respond to emails, does not teach well, belittles you if you have questions and does not care at all. She submits grades after they’re due and doesn’t even publish them, most of my class saw a huge drop in our grades after our TWO finals with no explanation. Elms doesn’t even say that she graded the assignments at all so who knows if those grade drops were based on anything genuine at all. She single-handedly makes me question whether I even want to continue in this program because it feels like such a waste of time. She’s a terrible professor.
