Emily Shetty FGSM315 Expecting an A+ Anonymous 02/03/2026	The professor is super kind, the grading and rubrics are pretty clear cut, and it's really easy to get a good grade in the class as long as you show up and participate. Even though I had to miss a couple of classes, the TA's are really understanding & will drop your participation grade for that class as long as you communicate with them in advance. Despite the class being 3 hours, it was always interesting and went by quickly. Overall, if you're in the UMD Fellows Program, I highly recommend taking this class!!!
Emily Shetty FGSM315 Expecting an A Anonymous 01/24/2026	Yes the class is long and boring sometimes, if you are interested in the fellows program that is kind of nonnegotiable. But Shetty is a bright light who is truly passionate about her work and her students. Her experience and insight as a state delegate is fascinating and because of her network she brings in incredible guest speakers from state government as well. If you are interested in state/local politics I highly recommend. Fair grader with plenty of time and explanation on assignments. A solo presentation, a paper, a group presentation, weekly writing assignments, and nothing was too hard. The main challenge is staying awake - bring an energy drink or have some coffee before.

Prof. Shetty is very sweet and understanding and will help you get far and find your internship. However, the grading doesn't ever make sense and a large part of the class is boring, long, and unnecessary.

It was cool to meet many important guest speakers and share our own political opinions and experiences. The class was really long and boring at times. The work was not difficult, but grading is not really consistent.
Emily Shetty FGSM315 Expecting an A Anonymous 12/03/2024	One of the best classes I have taken at UMD. Professor Shetty is super kind and it is awesome to be taught by a delegate. I loved all the guest speakers in the class, and I loved how much discussion the class was. I felt like the workload was perfect because we got to focus and explore policies that interested us. The only downside is that the class is three hours long but oh well.
