Trauma & Addiction in Family Life
Introduces students to traumatic stress, trauma- and stressor-related disorders, and substance-related and addictive disorders. Students will learn about risk factors for traumatic stress along the lifespan and individual and family resiliency to these conditions. This course will provide students with the tools necessary for assessment and diagnosis of trauma- and stressor-related disorders and substance-related and addictive disorders. Students will become knowledgeable about the short-term and long-term consequences of traumatic stress and learn about research-supported best clinical practices for the treatment of trauma- and stressor-related disorders, and substance-related and addictive disorders. The students will also learn about recognizing and preventing burnout, compassion fatigue, and secondary traumatization.
