His teaching style is really great. He makes things REALLLY easy to understand, so easy that its a little annoying sometimes lol. He really makes sure we all know whats going on. Labs are not overly hard, easy to ask TA or classmates for help. Professor Zhou is also really adorable, everyone in my class seems to really love him. |

Many reviews mention that Dr. Zhou is hard to understand because of his accent, but I didn't find this to be the case. If you're used to hearing different accents, you should be fine- people just love to nitpick lol. Dr. Zhou is an accommodating and organized professor. I took both GEOG373 and GEOG306 with him. The lecture for 373 admittingly wasn't too great, as I didn't really get much from being lectured on GIS topics which I was only really able to understand once I actually did them in the lab. The 306 lecture was much better since we actually did practice problems in class, making each topic easy to understand. Overall, both classes were challenging, and I easily got frustrated with the 373 assignments. However, the TAs are very helpful, the curve is good, and there are opportunities for extra credit, so I ended up with an A in both. The final exam for 373 is kind of dumb, since it's really a lab based class it makes more sense to just have a practical. But it's open note, so it's not completely awful. |

Prof Zhou is a really nice professor and keeps his lectures pretty engaging too. His accent is a bit hard to understand at first but it only takes like 3 lectures to get used to. I really enjoyed the class. My only complaint is that sometimes there is a disconnect between lectures and labs and how to translate the information between the two. Sometimes he gives quizzes for low point amounts based on stuff in lab that's hard to do when you don't have arcgis pro opened in front of you. However, there are a ton of ways to earn extra credit points, just attend everything and that's already a good amount of EC, and his threshold for grading is super curved. The labs are also manageable with one every other week and they are good to attend to understand course content. And shoutout to my TA Haley, she was super nice and sooo helpful for understanding the homeworks |

Lectures were informative on the topic we had to go over for that week. Lab work and homework assignments are not too difficult to complete, so long as you spend a couple hours doing the lab first and applying that knowledge to the homework assignment. Assignment details are vague in every homework assignment, creating some conflict at times when completing the homework. The practical exam is irritating to do, as the information is vague in details. The final exam mainly focused on one aspect of the topics that we barely did in class. Majority of the exam was doing math problems with a few multiple choice questions. |

Engaging lecturer who cares about his students and their success. Labs are not too difficult and are based on just following the instructions, and then applying the tools learned to solve problems. The practical is a bit difficult, but is very doable, but does require some knowledge outside of what was done in lecture and lab. |

Definitely take this class with Dr. Zhou! He is a good teacher and wants to make everything clear to his students. He is very helpful and you can tell he really cares about his students and their understanding of the subjects. The class grade is made up of only the lab homeworks and then the practical test and final exam. He also curves the final grades so an 85 is an A. |

Professor Zhou is a great professor! He is very difficult to understand at times but all his lectures are posted online so even if you don't understand him in speaking you can still follow along on the slides. His labs are really straight forward with easy to follow step by step directions, If you actually show up and try for the labs you're gonna end up doing pretty good on them. His exams are worth only 10 points each, they barely effect the overall grade but are still very important to do good on. He gives awesome study guides that make studying super easy. Oh did I mention that for his GIS technical classes an 85+ is an A? FYI, I'm a GIS major so I may find this easier then someone who has never been introduced to the topic. |

I think professor Zhou is very good and helpful professor. You can tell he actually wants you to understand the subject. Although he does have an accent he really isn't that hard to understand. He explains things well and is good overall |

This course is pretty simple. Dr. Zhou is a little hard to understand because of his accent, but he is a very nice professor. Lecture can drag on and at times be very boring, but it is important to attend. Dr. Zhou sometimes does calculations on the board that he does not include in his PowerPoints, and these calculations are usually on the exams. There are two midterms and a final, plus lab assignments. Lab is held every other week, so you have plenty of time to work on the assignments. There is a take home lab practical at the end of the semester, but it's not difficult. The TA's are readily available if you need any help on anything. An 85% or higher in this course is considered an A, so there is a nice curve. Dr. Zhou posts exams for previous semesters, of which he reuses some questions. Attend lecture, take time on your labs, and you will do well in this class. |

Zhou is a pleasant professor. The other reviews are pretty accurate in that the material isn't too difficult, but you will definitely need to attend class and study if you want to understand the calculation/methods for the exams. He does his best to make sure everyone learns and will go through something again if people don't understand. The lab portion of the class involves pretty much following instructions to do a lab, then doing a homework based on the lab. The lab practical is pretty difficult and in general most of the class has no idea how to do half of the practical because the labs don't prepare you for it all that well. I would take another class with him though. |

The class is pretty straightforward-3 exams, each one non cumulative, plus the lab work. Prof. Zhou can be a bit hard to understand and can drag on sometimes, but it's not too demanding of a class. He posts the slides online, and he does give random quizzes in class, so make sure you attend as much as possible. TA was pretty helpful, and labs aren't too bad if you put time into it. Be prepared to spend a good chunk of time on the practical. Quizzes are good hints for what will be on the exams. I started out by not doing too well but managed to pull up my grade to an A after catching on to the class. Since I can't post two separate reviews, I'll just say a little bit about GEOG473, which is very similar. The only difference is that there is no practical, there are only two exams, each of which is worth a little bit more individually (44%, 22% each). The labs are a little bit simpler actually and you don't have one due each week-instead there are five homeworks, with each homework consisting of several different labs. Be sure to attend the labs so you can receive assistant from the TA, who was very helpful. Also, even though powerpoints are posted on ELMS, attending lecture can be helpful, especially since there are random pop quizzes which provide hints of what is to come on the exams. As in Geog373, Zhou providse previous exams and outlines to guide your studies, which I recommend using. |
