The grading structure of the course is rather obtuse. We were informed that there would be no tests but rather quizzes as a substitute. In reality, they were quizzes structured as tests with standardized sheets worth 40% of your final grade (13.33% each). The lab grading scale was very particular and oriented toward small, minute details, but they were not impossible. The test questions varied in difficulty due to ambiguity. The majority of the content covered was at least mentioned in the slides, yet it may not have been thoroughly explained or defined. A handful of those questions were based upon subjective or 'popular-opinion'. This was the only course where my participation score brought my grade down, I attended and spoke in nearly every class. The labs effectively cover different software and comprise the core elements of map-making, which were fundamental to building cartography skills. Additionally, they taught us how to utilize animation styles as well. Overall assessment, I would not recommend this instructor or class. It is by no means necessary and highly subjective. |

Dr. Stewart is awesome! She is easy to work with if you have any accommodations and does a great job teaching the course material thoroughly. Yes, her lectures can get dry and kind of boring, but they’re still really easy to follow along with. Also, this course is really fun, and the labs give you a great chance to work with ArcGIS and other mapping applications that will prepare you for the workforce. |

Considering the course is called "Geographic Visualization and Digital Mapping," you would expect a very project-based course. However, 40% of the grade is based on three quizzes from lectures, which were very theoretical and seemed of little relevance to the course. Quizzes were taken without material, which required unnecessarily memorizing concepts. Labs were very interesting, but since it took a while to receive feedback, sometimes you will drag issues from previous labs. |

Professor Stewart is a very kind professor. She explained the concepts of the course very well and thoroughly; however, her lectures can get very dry and tedious. I often found it hard to stay focused during class. On the flip side, it was an easy and very interesting course. I thought the labs were fun to do, and the grading of the labs were very fair. |
