Dr. Scott is very wise and knows his stuff. This is my first semester taking him, and I will be taking him next semester for 204. He really wants his students to learn. I appreciated that I never felt like I was being judged for speaking in class or participating. As a person, he is very kind and caring for his students. There was a couple times this professor I forgot about an assignment and he would reopen it for me to take again with full points. His class can seem like a lot of work, but it is pretty simple. But, that is totally up to you and your passion in learning German. I would recommend him to anyone! |

While Dr. Scott is 100% an interesting and knowledgeable professor, I found his teaching style to sometimes be convoluted, as he often incorporates linguistic-based explanations that can be hard to follow. He can also be quite slow to put in grades if they are not assignments automatically graded on ELMS (i.e., CATs, which are unit exams). However, my German improved during his course. I don't know if I would take him again since his teaching style didn't entirely work for me. GERS103 and 203 are also A LOT of work, so don't take it unless you're ready to put in the effort! |

Tough class but a good professor. He does a lot to make sure that students understand material, although the "PC" quizzes that begin each class which are meant to see if students prepared the homework readings tend to focus on obscure, unimportant aspects of the textbook, (i.e. "what was the name of the character in this story" as opposed to checking in to see if you understood the new vocabulary and grammar). The class itself has a very heavy workload, would not recommend taking this course if you're in line for a busy semester. |
