I will start by saying, Professor Kazungu is a genuinely kind person, she is extremely flexible and open when approached directly, there is a reasonable amount of work, and it is extraordinarily easy to get an A. She is also constantly fitted, her style is immaculate. HOWEVER, she took what should have been an interesting topic and drained it of any life. As someone who is passionate about international environmental policy and wants to pursue it as a career, it should have been difficult to get me to dislike this class. Yet here we are. The grading criteria was unclear, the timelines were messy, the midterm was unnecessarily hard, and the final essay was a glorified literature review at best. In lecture, she seemed just as surprised as her students as to what content was coming next. Again, great person, easy class. But don't take this course with her simply because you think you'll enjoy the topic.

Professor Berland is super sweet and willing to answer any questions students may have. If you like learning about environmental politics and institutions this is a good class, however, it can become a little boring at times. The grade in the class is made up of a participation grade, 3 short papers, a longer research paper, and 2 online exams.

Great professor! I took her over summer session 1 and I found that GVPT306 was an extremely easy class. She gives out a very reasonable amount of work to complete, and most of it is very straightforward. The topic for this class is very interesting and I feel as though I learned a lot. She's also a very easy grader - I got 100s on almost everything. Every time I had an issue, she got back to me very quickly and resolved the problem. I highly recommend her!

Even though grading attendance isn't allowed at UMD she passes around a sheet for everyone to sign at the beginning of class in order to grade "participation." Slides are overwhelming & disorganized, the topics covered do not relate very well to each other, and there's inconsistency with how assignments are graded. Only take if required.
