Leadership, Power and Privilege

Critical analysis of social issues, contemplative practice, and dialogue are used to examine how power and privilege operate at individual, institutional, and societal levels to impact leadership perceptions and behaviors. Students will be exposed to concepts of power and privilege within collective and inclusive leadership frameworks. Course material will apply diverse learning methods to increase the student's awareness of power and privilege and how these concepts operate at the individual, institutional, and societal levels to impact our leadership perceptions and behaviors. Students will be asked to explore the way they perform and understand leadership through critical analysis of social issues, assignments, contemplative practice, and dialogue. Also, it invites students to question their own assumptions about the world in which we live, to acknowledge how their different experiences have shaped them, to be aware of how they perceive others and are perceived by others, and to recognize how these dynamics intersect with the leadership process.
