HIST222 Expecting an A Anonymous 05/08/2024 |
The course explored the nuances encompassed in the experiences of immigrants that came to the U.S. throughout the 19th, 20th, and 21st century. This was different from traditional U.S. history courses that do not focus much on this aspect of American society. Assignments primarily consisted of weekly discussion posts using the ELMS platform which allowed the interaction with classmates through the collaboration of reading/responding to one another's posts. These assignments helped reinforce the topics taught during lecture. Lecture was very engaging and Dr. Chiles was very excited/willing to answer any questions either during lecture or after class. Dr. Chiles is very kind and an excellent lecturer. He cares for his students and his excitement for teaching shows through. In addition, he encouraged students to participate in the food festival which he planned and organized and was very willing to help students in as many capacities as he could. Lastly, he made students feel comfortable sharing their ethnic/cultural backgrounds with the class and created a very wholesome and humanistic atmosphere. Bonus points bc he quoted/referenced a Taylor Swift song |

very lenient, we didn't have too many assignments. He's very entertaining in lecture and tends to ramble (in a good way lol). I recommend any class taught by him, he'll make you interested in the lectures! |

Professor Chiles is genuinely one of the most insightful professors I have ever had. I took his history of immigration course with the intent of just getting the diversities portion of my gen ed requirements over with, but I ended up looking forward to every lecture. His lecture style is very entertaining because of how passionate he is about the content. The course itself broadened my perspective on cultures around the world, and even allowed me to learn more about my own. There are a few large assignments to be aware of, such as a lengthy research paper and presentation, however, I found them to be quite enjoyable. With that being said, he is also quite lenient/flexible with due dates if you present a valid reason. Overall, I would definitely recommend taking a class with this guy. He's the man. |
