I have had the honor of having Dr. Lilley as my professor for history 319, 482, and 483. I personally feel that Professor Lilley is a very good lecturer who provides a tremendous amount of information and resources to his students. I have found that most people who complain about Dr. Lilley have not done the necessary assigned reading, or they fail to attend class and participate in discussions. In some cases, I have heard people complain that he does not teach history in linear order for a specific culture. The fact that he does not do this is good, you cannot learn about one culture at a time when so many cultures are linked. If you actually want to learn then I highly recommend Dr. Lilley as your professor, on the other hand if you just want an easy A, he is not your guy. |

As I look back over all the decisions I've made in my 20 years on this earth, one in particular seems to stick out in my mind. I remember that fateful day like a picture in my minds eye, back when I was contemplating my concentration in my major. I had recently decided to focus on "socio-cultural" history, and I was desperately looking for upper levels that fit this description as well as didn't hold classes before 11am because I'm a lazy asshole. Scanning ELMS I saw a class topic that I had not previously even conceived. "This could be interesting" my naive self said as I proceeded to open Testudo's Drop/Add database. It was at that moment when I wish more than anything I could go back. The seven keystrokes: H. I. S. T. 3. 1. 9. have fundamentally obliterated my life in more ways than I could've ever thought possible. The amount of sheer gayness contained within Charles Lilley's course is staggering, an "exercise in futility" would be a complement to this class. Without reddit, barstool, and Facebook, I may not make it through this course with my life. |
