I took this course a couple of semesters ago and felt like it was one of the few throughout my MA that challenged/expanded my world view and understanding of the West's historical culpability and present /inability/ to reckon with genocide and crimes against humanity. From exploring imperial Germany's colonial project in Africa, where their dehumanization of Africans served as a precursor in some ways to Germany's actions in the holocaust, to Argentina, Canada and many other places, this course rattled my world view--for example: Germany literally still has thousands of skulls that they removed from people in east Africa--just like the US & indigenous remains. Not for the faint of heart.

Taught a class about genocide without any readings on the syllabus about imperialism/colonialism, which is kind of an epistemologically irresponsible way to teach a course about world atrocities. 2/5 You will lose interest if you're looking for a real grad class to take
