This class is taught by TAs, but my interactions with Jalah have been completely positive and supportive. She is friendly, kind, and gives the impression of wanting the best for everyone. The class itself is a fairly low time commitment. You meet once a week and usually discuss some health-related issue in society by grouping up and discussing articles. There is an “impact project” where you research your own issue of interest and write up some short papers on it. The one complaint I have is the occasional lack of clear instructions: a couple times, we were given an assignment without much idea of what we were expected to do and had details clarified somewhat last-minute. However, the grading for this class is based solely on completion and attendance, so there really wasn’t that much to worry about.

Jalah is amazing- super sweet and more than happy to meet with you anytime. Great person to have as a point of contact in ILS. She was very kind and insightful when I talked to her about changing my major. HLSC100 is taught fully by the TAs. The class is not a huge commitment. There is a project that consists of a few papers and some sort of final presentation but it's not that big of a deal. Also you can work in groups for it. Basically this class is just a way for you to meet ILS peers.

*class was fully online due to covid* The class was taught by section leaders (TAs by any other name), but Zabrina is really nice outside of class. If there are any people just starting ILS reading this, don't worry about this class. It's not designed to seriously teach content. It's really just for meeting people in ILS and allowing ILS to get their program requirements attached to a grade.
