Took this course over the summer after reading all the awful reviews. It was still awful but at least it was quick. The video lectures were such a slog, interesting information taught in the most monotone, boring way possible, and she was constantly yawning which didn't help. I was actually interested in the content and I still barely remember the class because I hated it so much. The rubrics and a lot of her instructions about projects were confusing, probably made worse that it was all online and pretty fast paced. She would take marks off and then not explain why, or if you were lucky she would give you a one or two word explanation.

This class is horrible. Dr. KM is one of the most boring professors I have ever had, and I did not enjoy her class at all. There is participation every. single. class. so take this class with a friend if possible. There is so much busy work, including long reaction posts, confusing discussion worksheets, and in class participation. The final exam is optional, but there is a final semester long group project. When grading, Dr. KM frequently takes off points for things included in the paper and it appears that she is constantly looking to take points off for no reason. The lectures are so boring and are from pre-made, disorganized slides that contain the bare minimum. She barely gives any test review, except for about 10 slido questions and a long winded list of what to know. My advice would be to go to the class before the exam because she will give you an idea of the questions that will be on the exam. Exams are fine, but some questions are confusing. Overall, this class was horrible, and the only thing to make it somewhat decent was my TA. I would give Dr. KM zero stars if I could.

This class is definitely a lot. The essays are graded particularly harshly. The rubrics are often hard to interpret, although if you really carefully follow the rubric, you will do well.

Evelyn is a terrible professor. You will fill out everything from the rubric and she will still say you don't have it. You almost have to write like you are talking to a kindergartener for her to give you points for things on the rubric because she clearly doesn't understand slightly complex writing (which is funny because it shows how unqualified she is to have a PhD). She grades your "final presentation" on the slides alone, so even though she says not to have too much written on each slide, make sure you have everything on them regardless of if you say it out loud. During the final presentation, she was on and off of her phone. She was 3 slides ahead of the presenters grading solely the slides. She gives out participation assignments in every single class. For each discussion, we had a lengthy, time-consuming worksheet, that always went over our discussion time.

This professor has to be the worst I have taken at UMD, respectfully. Her exams? Study, study, study because they are limited in time and she does not care if you did badly on it. The professor does not have the patience nor is understanding to her students and my hopes are she can learn these two skills. She is unorganized, harsh on grading, and the exams were based on memorization but you won't know what to study for.

Attendance is not mandatory, but necessary as she makes you do participation activities each class. The first two exams were decent and not hard as long as you studied from the slides. The final exam is optional which is great because the final paper and final presentation are heavy enough as is. In each discussion, you work on worksheets that put together the final presentation and paper making it a bit easier. As long as you follow the rubrics you should get a good grade. She will tell you why she took off points if you come up to her and ask.

Oh my god. Just like how everyone has mentioned, this class is extremely disorganized and downright awful. Something that threw me off from the start was the Syllabus quiz which is timed at 15 minutes and doesn't use the same lingo as the actual syllabus does, so not only are you scrambling for time but you also have no idea what the question is asking for. Dr.KM acts like she gives a lot of resources but there is literally nothing. Before every exam, she posts a 20-something minute video "reviewing" what is going to be on the exam but it's literally just her reading off the main topics of her weekly slides. You're basically expected to memorize the entire slides. Also in her exams, she includes class answers (not fact based literally just what majority said) from lecture participation but doesn't update the slides so we have it on hand. During lecture she reads off the slides a lot and somehow manages to make actually interesting topics boring and hard topics harder, like pls. I also don't think she keeps her TAs very updated with her expectations about discussion worksheets because she would say one thing and the TAs would grade it another way. In my semester long group project, our group made a key error that the TA looked past several times before I figured out during the final week of classes was wrong after going to the professor's OH (not on the TA, this part was not mentioned anywhere in her 100 rubrics). Genuinely such a terrible experience.

Words cannot describe just how awful this class was. There’s participation everyday, which is totally unnecessary. Like others have mentioned, there’s slides that are unclear and missing important and necessary information that you need to study. It’s really great that the final is optional because you’re going to spend a LOT of time on a final project that makes you want to slam your head against a wall. Somehow there’s 3 rubrics for one project and you’re expected to follow them all. Just the most confusing class with someone who feels controlling for the sake of idk, nothing?

First class I've ever been to where they don't give you the notes you need to study for exams. She'll give you slides from 2 years ago and you're expected to follow those. Everything is an excuse to take off points. They tell you assignments are for participation, and then grade them for content. They give you 3 or 4 rubrics for a final project. Every aspect of this class was miserable from start to finish.

This is one of those classes with interesting content taught in the most annoying way possible. Dr. KM is extremely disorganized and has a tendency to skip around a lot during lectures. She'll go super in depth with meaningless examples, then gloss over complicated theories and concepts. The slides are all reused from past years, so they're often out of order. Discussions in this class are split into 2 assignments. One is "public health in the media", where every person gives an individual presentation about some health topic in media, leads a discussion, then writes an essay with an awkwardly structured prompt. The other is a semester long group project (yay. everyone's favorite) where you have to design a public health intervention. It has several worksheets, a final group presentation, and a final essay, and attendance in discussion is mandatory. At least the final exam is optional, cause after the essay and presentation at the same time, you have enough on your plate

The course content is really easy but the professor did everything she could to take off any points she could on bigger assignments/essays without much explanation for it at all. This made reviewing work extremely tedious because there were multiple rubrics for each assignment that were lengthy and hard to follow.

I took this course over the summer, and her lectures were severely unorganized. There were many spelling errors throughout and she is CONSTANTLY yawning. She was very unresponsive, and harsh on grading. Even completing assignments based on the rubric is not enough to get you a decent grade. Her tests were ridiculous and required rote memorization and used honor lock. Overall, I would recommend not taking this course with this professor.
