La Marr Bruce HNUH218Z Expecting an A Anonymous 03/03/2023	I wouldn't say that Dr. Bruce is a terrible professor, but nor would I call him a good one. He did not use ELMS to enter grades of any sort. He insinuates that a significant portion of your grade is based off of in-class participation (or his perception of it anyway—he didn't keep any sort of tally). However, at the very end of the semester he told us that everyone could still get an A depending on how their final essay went, essentially completely discrediting the fact that some students hardly participated during class. The only way to gauge how you were doing in his class was during the "mid-semester" 1-on-1s he had with every student. During these 1-on-1s, I believe he told every single person to talk more during class, which (believe it or not) wasn't actually possible because the entire class was already filled with discussion. Grades and real-time feedback would have been more helpful. Responses to emails, if you were lucky enough to get one at all, were extremely brief and unhelpful. La Marr isn't a BAD professor, and I did fine in the course, but I still wouldn't recommend anyone take classes with him.
