Best HNUH class you could take, I would recommend to anyone. She is mostly discussion-based and makes the class extremely interesting and collaborative. There are reflection writings, which are fine, and a few reflection papers, which are pretty easy to write. The readings are interesting, and it's never too much to complete. There is barely any work outside of class, and she understands if you can't make it to class. Best professor, she is the nicest and sweetest I've ever had. Definitely take this class!!!

Such a great professor! Very interesting class without being to stressful or heavy on the workload. She is very knowledgable about what she is teaching and makes class fun and engaging. Mostly readings and discussions within the class, as well as reflection posts and sometimes small research projects. Overall a great class to take for honors, and she is an amazing teacher.

Amazing professor! Really dives deep into the readings but isn’t super strict on grading. She’s very lenient but you just have to communicate your needs. Lots of different learning opportunities to help the class stay engaged like a museum trip and in class games. Overall would highly recommend !

Very chill professor. Class is really just made up of discussion and readings, but you don't have to doan intensep dive into the readings. Each reading has a section that defines a homeland, and every reading is unique and different. There really isn't any sort of work other than that for the most part, other than in class discussion and occasional research. Definitely a great class to take for your honors course, because of the low time commitment and the engagement.

What an amazing experience learning about what makes land a homeland with Dr. Toprak, a very knowledgeable and hilarious individual. We have readings about different countries in the world and connect those texts to the core concepts of the class. There isn't any difficulty with the assignments if you just read the text. We played a board game about creating a homeland, which was fun. Also, you go on a field trip to either the Smithsonian or the American Dream museum in DC.

Very nice professor, and the class was pretty interesting while not being a lot of work. Most of the work was readings about sociology and the idea of a homeland that you did before class. The final was almost entirely done in class except for a few interviews of your peers, and we don't have to go in during finals week. Would recommend.

Professor Toprak is a very good professor. She teaches a great class where it's mostly led by class discussion. It really makes you think about the readings which are mostly entertaining. There aren't any tests or quizzes and most of the assignments are just creating discussion questions based on the readings. Classes are fun and there are some great activities to keep things fresh. I would definitely recommend this course.

Professor Toprak is a great professor. She is very nice, understanding, and funny. The class is quite simple, pretty much just looking at readings and discussing with the class (with an occasional one slide presentation). No essays, quizzes, or exams. We even had a class field trip to DC. Definitely recommend taking this class with Professor Toprak.

The class is pretty interesting and professor is flexible and understanding. Most of the readings are interesting and discussions are fun and engaging bc it is a small class. We also got to play a world building game and go on a field trip. I would take this class if you want an honors class that is interesting and not too much pressure.

She's a chill professor. The class is mostly one big discussion about the readings, but it's not a lot of pressure. The readings are sociological papers about homelands, American narratives, and memoirs. There's a lot of breaking up into groups for discussions and occasionally in-class research, and you sum up each class with a reflection. She gives time to work in class on the project at the end where you conduct and analyze interviews.
