The content of this class is semi interesting, but some of the readings were either very long or difficult to comprehend. You don't really need to read. However, you will need to use the readings on the essays, which he tends to grade very easily. For the final project, he gave everyone 100%. Overall, great professor. GOAT

I loved Professor Jiao!! He was very sweet and understanding when it came to the participation assignments. He was also extremely knowledgeable about the subjects that were covered throughout the lectures; although the classes felt a bit boring and long at times, it wasn't too bad. The final project was really fun and we got to visit DC in groups to investigate cultures/foods, and even got metro cards administered by the UH department.

Professor Jiao is one of my favorite professors who I've taken a class with! He's really sweet and understanding, and he makes sure to let students know that they can come to him with any questions or concerns. He's really lenient with grading and extensions should you need one. This class does have a good amount of reading that can be monotonous at times, but his lectures are pretty interesting. Be prepared to think critically and answer questions in his class! Most of our grade came from participation points, and he basically gave everyone a 1 for each assignment. There were two essays that required you to use the readings to respond to prompts, and a final project that was a lot of fun to do and present. I highly recommend him, even if you might not necessarily take interest in the content of the class.

Dr. Jiao is a very sweet man who is obviously passionate and knowledgable about the subject he's teaching! He's very understanding that most people in this class have basically no background in humanities and are very busy outside of class, so he tries not to assign too much work besides readings and doesn't grade harshly at all. In addition, he's super compassionate and understanding of student's different situations outside of classes and is receptive to helping students outside of classes if they need anything.
