He is a very knowledgeable professor, and his class is enjoyable. The only really required work are two papers and two article summaries, which he grades easily. Contribute to the discussions, write decent papers, and this class is an easy, enjoyable A. |

Good class and good professor. As long as you do the work, you should get a good grade. There are two papers, 3 oral reports, and 10 article summaries. The class itself was pretty enjoyable. Sometimes it got a bit boring when you had to listen to other people's reports. Overall, I recommend this class and professor strongly. |

Really nice, approachable professor. He loves the material he teaches and it shows when he talks about it. Unfortunately, that is about all the happens because there is not a lot of time for participation, even though the class is discussion based and he has class participation as a significant part of your grade. A typical class would involve discussion on the assigned readings from the book for the first half of class and then reports on outside articles given to specific members of the class for the second half. Each person has to give three of these reports during the semester. While they do not require a lot of work (summarize the article and say a little bit about what you thought of the author's point), they still bog down the class and while one person is presenting, the others have to sit and listen which seems like a poor use of class time. The class itself consists of these 3 oral reports, 10 one page written reports throughout the semester on other people's assigned articles, a midterm paper, and a final paper. Grading, especially on the written and oral reports, seems more like a completion grade than how well you actually present your argument. Overall, it is an easy class to get an A in, especially if you contribute a couple of intelligent statements every class period. I would recommend this class and professor if you are looking to have an easy way to fufill your CORE requirements, especially if you are even mildly interested in the subject matter. |
