Took her last semester. The review from 5/30/20 summarizes the experience of HONR258D very well.

Read the reviews on RateMyProfessor. Dr. Schuler is an academic but is not suited for teaching undergraduate students.

Dr. Schuler is probably the worst professor I have had during my time at the University of Maryland: College Park. After reading her horrible reviews from over the years, the only reason I decided to take this honors seminar because it was offered online and the grade distribution has been mostly A’s from past semesters. With this in mind, I thought that I wouldn’t have to deal with her nasty attitude, but I was terribly wrong. Not only is this woman condescending, arrogant, and blatantly disrespectful. She lacks basic communication skills as her instructions are unclear and questions are vague, yet she is always looking for something specific. Of course, you won’t know this until you read the comments she leaves after grading an assignment (which takes her forever to do). For an online class, you would think that she would have the courtesy to respond to emails in a timely manner, but this is simply not the case ー ever. She also never fails to include snarky comments in her announcements and posts as she is never satisfied. She also makes sure to publicly put down students for simple things, such as asking a question or posing a concern about an assignment. If she does not agree with your analysis, you are simply wrong. If you take this class, you cannot have an opinion of your own (even in the discussion posts). These discussion posts, which were the bane of my existence during this past semester, would take hours upon hours due to the overwhelmingly extensive prompts that she would post three days (or less) before the due date. These were not discussion posts, but papers in disguise that were only worth a measly 10 points. The workload for this class, in general, was unbelievable. She would often demand we watch two 2-hour long films and read an article or several almost every week. Once, she gave me a 5/10 on a discussion post because she didn’t *think* I watched one of the assigned films that I talked about in my post, yet apparently I still did a great job. She leaves comments IN CAPS LIKE THIS, which is unprofessional, to say the least, and doesn’t know how to talk to students in a respectful manner (when she actually has the decency to respond). To summarize, Dr. Schular is awful. I finished this class with an 89.15% and she refused to bump me even though she is the one who mistakenly entered in an extra credit assignment. Since when does EXTRA credit negatively impact your grade? I would never recommend her class to anyone.
